| Mystique by Corel Dear Model Expo, This is to thank you and Corel too for making available to me the kit of "Mystique," your catalog number SM21. I just finished this model and have enclosed a few photos of her. This kit earns a solid "10" from me for its excellence. This kit exceeded all my expectations in every way. The materials were all excellent and adequate and the plans were well done and easy to follow. This kit demonstrates considerable thought and effort went into it by Corel. The extensive amounts of gilded decorations really make this a most attractive model. Also the subject itself, a 1750 French xebec that is polacre-rigged, made for a very interesting and unusual subject. This project taught me a lot about the xebec hull and the polacre rig. This project was quite a lot of fun too. It took a total of 365 work hours to complete, 60 percent for the hull, 40 percent for the rig. The only tricky part was bending the hull planking around the extremely rounded (bulbous) stem below the quarterdeck. I dipped the planks in ammonia and then carefully bent them around the rounded stem. They bend easily after dipping them in ammonia and when dry, will stay bent as desired. That made a difficult task easy. Thank you again for making this kind of high quality kit available to your customers. What a terrific company you are. Ken Ries |
