At 1:35 scale, Italeri’s Schnellboot S-100 finishes an imposing 39.3 inches long and contains more than 600 parts, including photo-etched metal details, clear window film, detailed weaponry, torpedoes, and a fully equipped bridge.
Fast, heavily armed, and designed for night attacks, the S-100 was among the most formidable coastal combat vessels of World War II.
Italeri has recreated it accordingly: big, intricate, and absolutely not apologizing for either.
Nearly 40 Inches of Schnellboot
The Allies called them E-boats.
The Germans called them Schnellboote—fast boats—which was unusually straightforward by military naming standards.
Powered by three diesel engines and capable of approximately 40 knots, the S-100 combined exceptional speed, long range, heavy armament, and remarkable performance in rough seas. Its low silhouette and reduced wake made it particularly dangerous during the nighttime attacks for which it became famous.
Italeri’s Premium Edition S-100 recreates this formidable vessel in the same scale normally reserved for tanks and military figures.
The result is less like an ordinary ship model and more like a 1:35 scale naval diorama waiting to happen.
A Meter of Detail
The completed model measures 99.9 cm—just over 39 inches—from bow to stern.
That size allows Italeri to reproduce details that would disappear at smaller scales:
Armored bridge and detailed wheelhouse
Open flying bridge with navigation equipment
Twin bow torpedo tubes
Highly detailed torpedoes
Forward, amidships, and aft defensive gun positions
Ammunition clips and weapon accessories
Deck hatches, vents, railings, ladders, and fittings
Propellers, shafts, rudders, and underwater running gear
Photo-etched metal detail parts
Clear film for bridge windows
Authentic marking decals
The guns and torpedoes are detailed assemblies in their own right. At this scale, they are not vague suggestions molded somewhere on the deck. You build them.
Engineered for Its Size
A model this large requires more than two hull halves and optimism.
Italeri uses a heavy, reinforced hull structure with screw-assisted assembly, creating a solid foundation for the extensive deck fittings, bridgework, weapons, and fine details that follow.
A photographic reference manual is also included, providing historical information and useful color images for assembly, painting, camouflage, and weathering.
The S-100 Schnellboot
Developed from fast civilian yacht designs, Germany’s Schnellboote were built for speed, range, and operation in rough coastal waters.
The later S-100 class introduced the distinctive armored bridge, providing additional protection against the increasing threat of Allied aircraft. These boats operated primarily at night around the British Isles, but also served in the Mediterranean and Black Sea.
With Germany’s larger surface warships increasingly unavailable after 1943, Schnellboote became some of the Kriegsmarine’s few remaining vessels capable of continuing offensive operations.
Small boats. Very large responsibilities.
