This masterpiece of the Italian Renaissance is dated 1484-1485. It depicts a greco-roman mythological scene: the birth of the goddess Aphrodite (Venus). The figure on the left represents Zephyr: the west wind which accompanies Venus to the river. On the right, the woman welcoming her is an Hour, a personification of Spring. The painting can be admired at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.
