Revell Battleship Bismarck — 1:350 Scale Model Kit

Few warships in naval history have become as recognizable as the German battleship Bismarck. Commissioned in 1940, the Bismarck represented the height of German battleship engineering during World War II, combining a massive hull, powerful naval artillery, heavy armor, and an imposing silhouette.

Revell recreates this historic warship as a highly detailed 1:350 scale plastic model kit, featuring 659 parts, four main gun turrets, secondary artillery, anti-aircraft weapons, lifeboats, reconnaissance aircraft, cranes, and a display stand. With its impressive dimensions and extensive details, this kit offers an engaging project for experienced ship modelers and naval history enthusiasts.

The German Battleship Bismarck

The Bismarck was built for the German Navy and commissioned in August 1940. Alongside her sister ship Tirpitz, she represented one of the most formidable battleship designs produced by Germany during the Second World War.

Designed for long-range naval operations, the Bismarck combined heavy armor protection with eight 38 cm main guns mounted in four twin turrets. Her secondary artillery and anti-aircraft defenses provided additional firepower against surface vessels and aircraft.

The ship became internationally famous during Operation Rheinübung in May 1941. During the Battle of the Denmark Strait, the Bismarck participated in the destruction of the British battlecruiser HMS Hood. Following an extensive Royal Navy pursuit, the Bismarck was severely damaged and sank on May 27, 1941.

Today, the Bismarck remains one of the most studied and discussed warships of World War II, making it a significant subject for historical model collections.

Impressive 1:350 Scale Dimensions

Revell's 1:350 scale reproduction captures the imposing proportions of the original battleship while providing sufficient space for intricate surface details and individual components.

Measuring approximately 71.8 cm (28.3 inches) long, the completed model makes a striking display piece. Its long hull, towering superstructure, prominent gun turrets, and detailed deck layout recreate the characteristic appearance of this famous German warship.

The large scale also allows modelers to work carefully on smaller features, including deck fittings, weapon systems, lifeboats, and other structural elements.

Detailed Main Gun Turrets

The Bismarck's main armament was one of its defining characteristics. The original ship carried eight 38 cm guns arranged in four twin turrets, designated Anton, Bruno, Caesar, and Dora.

Revell includes four detailed main gun turrets, allowing builders to recreate the distinctive arrangement of the ship's heavy artillery.

The model also features twelve 15 cm guns, representing the secondary armament used against other surface vessels, as well as sixteen 10.5 cm anti-aircraft guns.

These weapons add visual depth to the completed model and provide opportunities for precise assembly and detailed painting.

Detailed Superstructure and Deck

The Bismarck's superstructure combined command facilities, observation positions, rangefinding equipment, and numerous operational structures required for a major warship.

Revell's kit recreates the ship's recognizable profile through its detailed components, allowing builders to assemble the main deck structures and surrounding equipment.

Searchlights with clear plastic parts add another level of detail, while the various deck fittings help create a more convincing representation of the original vessel.

Careful painting of the deck, superstructure, railings, and individual fittings can further enhance the realism of the finished display model.

Reconnaissance Aircraft and Shipboard Equipment

The original Bismarck carried Arado Ar 196 reconnaissance seaplanes, which were used for observation and maritime reconnaissance.

Revell includes two Arado 196 aircraft with transparent cockpit components, adding an interesting aviation element to the ship model.

The kit also contains two detailed cranes used to represent the equipment associated with handling aircraft and other shipboard operations.

Together, these components help illustrate the complexity of a major battleship, extending the model beyond its hull and artillery to include elements of its operational capabilities.

Lifeboats and Additional Details

Small accessories contribute significantly to the realism of a large-scale warship model. Revell includes ten lifeboats, providing additional detail along the vessel's deck and superstructure.

Combined with the searchlights, cranes, aircraft, and multiple artillery systems, these components give modelers a wide range of opportunities for careful assembly and finishing.

The large number of parts makes this kit particularly appealing to enthusiasts who enjoy detailed naval subjects and the challenge of building a complex display model.

Historical Camouflage and Decals

The appearance of a warship can change depending on its operational period, making camouflage and markings important elements of an accurate historical model.

Revell provides camouflage instructions and decals for two operational periods, allowing builders to choose between the supplied finishing options.

The included decals help complete the model's historical presentation, while careful painting can bring out the contrast between the hull, deck, superstructure, and individual fittings.

For experienced modelers, the kit also offers opportunities to enhance the finish with weathering techniques, subtle shading, and additional detailing.

A Significant Warship of World War II

The Bismarck's short operational career had a lasting influence on naval history. Her encounter with HMS Hood and the subsequent Royal Navy pursuit demonstrated the strategic importance of battleships, reconnaissance, naval coordination, and air power during the war.

Although the Bismarck was sunk in May 1941, her story continues to attract historians, naval enthusiasts, and model builders around the world.

Revell's 1:350 scale model offers an opportunity to explore this history through a detailed construction project, bringing together the ship's distinctive design, formidable armament, and recognizable silhouette.

Level 5 Model Kit

The Revell Battleship Bismarck is rated Level 5, making it best suited to experienced modelers who are comfortable with complex assembly, detailed painting, and decal application.

The kit contains 659 parts and builds into a model approximately 71.8 cm long. Its substantial size and extensive component count make it a rewarding project for builders seeking a challenging naval model.

The package includes detailed assembly instructions, decals, camouflage guidance for two operational periods, and a display stand.

The kit is recommended for modelers aged 14 and older. Paint, glue, and modeling tools may be required and should be purchased separately unless specifically included by the retailer.

A Historic Battleship for Your Collection

The Revell Battleship Bismarck 1:350 Scale Model Kit combines historical significance with an extensive range of detailed components.

Its four main gun turrets, secondary artillery, anti-aircraft weapons, reconnaissance aircraft, cranes, lifeboats, and detailed superstructure make it an impressive project for collectors of historic warships.
